the "Most Loved Romanian Athlete"
 During
the most important annual Romanian TV show, hosted by national
television, "The Most Loved Romanians", gymnast
Catalina
Ponor was awarded the official Trophy for "The Most
Loved Romanian Athlete". The Trophy was awarded after
official polls conducted by a Romanian Polls Institute (IMAS)
, at the request of National State TVR1. More than 40% of
the voters have chosen Catalina as the best athlete; second
place was won by Marius Urzica. The first three athletes have
received more than 4 millions votes from Romanian people (which
means 20% of whole Romania population have voted for them!).Former
R.O.C. President (and tennis player) Ion Tiriac was voted
the most loved businessman by more than 10 millions people
(half of Romania Population!).
The most loved journalist was voted Cristian Tudor Popescu
from "Adevarul"
newspaper. He get same Trophy for 2002, when he wrote the
famous "Gimnastica sportiva copilina" article (March
18, 2002) the one which started the debate regarding the gymnasts
age and the (bad for health) consequences of pushing the limits
with too young children at gymnastics.
Catalina: I think this Trophy is the only one which
I was missing. A Trophy for 'The Most Loved Athlete'.[r-g.com

TV show host: How do you feel?
Catalina: I feel great, it's extraordinary to be loved by
so many people!
