[Feb 3] Bela
Karolyi, hunting near Deva-B$B still in Bucharest...
Bela Karolyi is making one of his (previous November scheduled
and announced in the press back then-so there is NO connection
to B$$$B scandal) multi-annual visits in Romania. Having a
hunting cottage in Baita village, 20 km from Deva city, he
visit this place few times a year, depending hunting conditions
(and rumors about new Trophies).
Romanian Antena 1 TV station (close to B$B during recent scandals,
as close as leaving any basic journalistic standards) tried
hard to make a connection among Karolyi's visit (one of many
during a year, for his hunting pleasures only) and the B$B
case. They have used TV headlines like' Karolyi will train
in Romania" -but from their own aired story the conclusion
was opposite.
One of local best friends of Karolyi. Mr.Jianu, was asked
by Antena 1 about a possible return of Karolyi in Romanian
gymnastics. "No way, I'm telling you for sure, I know
him well and we spoke about; no way. He want to stay &
work in US until 2008 Olympics and retire after for good,
at pension, enjoy hunting and relax"
Any previous visit of Karolyi was seen suspiciously by B$B,
by few local journalists looking for "conspiracy theory"
-very common in Romania regarding everything, usually "
the West" (and now even US, despite formal alliance)
plots to ruin gymnastics or whatever.
This is due to the 50's communist propaganda,
strong implemented into older people minds-which is now transferred
to younger generation, as much as possible, by neo-communists
seeing their days are gone.
Not yet for Vieru&Comp, but the backcounting
have started back in Dec 1989; unfortunately, we don't know
the exact settings and how long it takes. Many hopes they
will gone sooner.
Both " Prosport" and " Gazeta
Sporturilor" -the most influent sports newspapers in
Romania, have started a campaign against "the communist
North Korea from Romanian Sport, the last fortress of communism
-RGF" -as Mr.Tolontan, editor in chief of Gazeta, during
an Antena 1 program.
