[April 13] Ploiesti
International Championships : Floarea, the new Star?...
Floarea Leonida will be the only Romanian AA competitor,
at Ploiesti International Championships, starting Friday at
Ploiesti.
Five girls from the present National team
will depart tomorrow to Ploiesti, from the National Training
Center in Bucharest.
Andreea Munteanu will go (soon, hopefully) to a medical
check in Germany, after he mother have (practically) begged
the RGF staff to do this, according to the press reports,
crying with heavy tears at last official meeting of RGF with
the girls (and media on the lobby, which may have helped for
this decision, which should be taken back last summer-but
back then nobody cares much, it seems). The Petrovschi case,
even with the out-of-Court $$settlement, pays off now: the
girls are send to medical checks abroad (almost) when needed,
not only after big media and Court scandals. Some mother tears
and begging were (still) involved, let's hope next time will
be just a standard measure.
The girls from the Romanian gymnastics team will compete only
at their favorites apparatus: Catalina Ponor will compete
at balance beam and floor, Dana Sofronie-at uneven
bars and (maybe) balance beam, Alexandra Eremia-at
balance beam and Monica Rosu at vault.
The mans team is in better condition, only
Alin Jivan having a leg injury, almost all member will compete
(under the new code of point). In the men's AA competition
will compete Ioan Suciu, Dan Potra, Razvan Selariu and
Daniel Popescu. Also Marian Dragulescu will compete
only at vault and floor, Marius Urzica at pommel horse,
parallel and horizontal bar.
Athens Olympic champion Silvia
Stroescu (retired last summer from the team) will
attend the contest, for the first time as a spectator at a
gymnastics competition.
Oana Petrovschi told to romanian-gymnastics.com
that she will attend the Ploiesti competition this weekend,
as a spectator. This will not make Belu much happy, we can
suppose- as much as the fans will not like that girls from
the team are not in a very good shape for the contest, so
there is a God who punish us for everything, right on the
spot, some may think...
Also at Ploiesti International Championships will be many
other famous names from Romanian gymnastics. Unfortunately,
Nadia Comaneci will leave Romania Friday which means she is
not able to attend the ceremonies there, due to a schedule
conflict.
TVR 2 will broadcast the contest (exact timing will be updated
in our Calendar). As of today, the announced aired times are:
Friday from 17, 30; Saturday from 20,30 and Sunday from 10,
30. You may see over the web the TVR1 sport program resume
at every major New Journal (19,00; 23,00).
