Oana
Ban interview, second part
Q What kind of music you like?
Oana
Ban: dance, house, generally speaking, music
which is high rhythmic.
Q your first coach, Mrs.Rodica Campeanu, let you train almost
yourself? (because she trust you?)
Oana
Ban: Sometime, she let me see myself the training
plan, and let me do all the work in my own peace.
Q She trust you that you follow the training plan?
Oana
Ban: Yes, I can tell you now (whithout modesty,
ha-ha!), that I was very conscientious at training. Sometime,
this bring me troubles from other girls at local club, those
girls which almost all the time, use to end the training before
me.
Q ...because they "skip"the counting for exercises, isn't
it?
Oana
Ban: (laughing) ...yes, you know these tricks?
Q: Yup!...but finally you ended with a Gold medal and those
girls ended...nowhere.A good lessons for all girls who want
to become like you.
Oana
Ban: As a little gymnast, I was the first in
my group. The have moved my soon at the "big group", with girls
older than me.I was appreciated mostly because I was doing
all my exercises and not asking for any special requests from
coaches, simply because I know I have to do them, to become
a good gymnast.
Q:How did you start gym, you are too young to be from "Nadia's
times", so what bring you to gym? What was your motivational
drive behind being a gymnast?(question from "50 cent"-our
Forum member from Chicago, IL)
Oana
Ban: I was a very, very naughty little girl. When
my mother asked my father to bring me to gym, he was at lest
happy that I wouldn't destroy (any more) my home furniture,
with my tumbling, ha-ha! I started to like and enjoy being
there and later I wanted to be a champion myself.
Q How did you manage to concentrate so well before your evolution
in any big event, like Athens Olympics? (question from
our Forum member Alucardos, Greece)
Oana
Ban: I was trying to impose myself thinking
that is just a regular train session, not a major contest.
Q:I hope this little secret will not help Martha gain next
Olympic title against our team, ha-ha! By the way, how did
you find the girls from U.S. team in Athens?
Oana
Ban:We have had very good relations, considering
that we were rivals on contest, but they were nice and we
have had no problems.Speaking about Martha K,. in Athens she
was looking to us like...let's say, not so friendly.(finally,
after few more seconds) No, frankly, it was (so) much hate
in her eyes.We have nothing against her, we respect her as
a coach, but she treated us (her attitude) very bad.
Q: You have to know that she even pretended (during a press
conferences) that Nadia should back up only the U.S. team
and not our team (even if Nadia is born in Romania, and only
a stupid woman may believe Nadia can forget this). We have
had an article on our site, against her attitude regarding
Nadia, and now I'm happy we posted that one, even if this
bring us a lot of bad reactions from some ignorant people. Our
sources said that Martha have had some bad days after that
stupid statement, after U.S. federation have asked her to
calm down and avoid such situations in future.
Oana
Ban: (looking and seeming happy to hear this):
interesting to hear about this.I still remember her eyes looking
at us in a very bad way.(sad attitude)
Q You have to know that Martha's times are almost gone and
their (family) future may depend on yours Gold medal (which
may have reduced their chances to keep their positions on
U.S. gymnastics). In fact, we can say Bela times are close
to an end, Martha is only the "cover" for him, as he is not
very popular among Americans, they manage to keep their business
on by pretending that Martha is in charge.)
Q: Which was the most difficult moment in you career?
( a question from our Forum member-Alucardos, Greece)
Oana
Ban: After my 2002 accident. My leg has wrong
soldered (after the ankle was broken), and makes me suffer. The
first doctor in Deva said I have just sprain, nothing broken.
But later, the bone went up and I ended by having a swelling
( a bulge) on my feet. My joint became to sensitive, I have
had to use a bandage all the time.Because I have moved the
effort to the other leg, I ended using bandages on second
leg, also-because it starts makes me problems, too.
Q: It should not be such a big surprise for us, who know how
poor is the medical assistance back in Deva or the lack of
real interest for the girls medical problems.Maybe you ou
should have the RMN and even a surgery back then, now it will
be more difficult and will hurt you more.
Oana
Ban: I don't have much pain, only when I pooch
too much on my leg or something.
Q Yeah, but still, a serious doctor should check and see.
Famous (also Athens Olympic champion) romanian athlete Tirlea
have solved her leg problems in Paris, due to lack of competence
she has suffered back home (for years).
Q: Your medicals problems make you retire, or you just wanted
to stop?
(our Forum member Alucardos from Greece have asked why
you retired so early)
Oana
Ban: First, it was my two years long leg problem,
which became very difficult to handle (any more) at Athens. Then,
I didn't feel any more like I want to do this. Each year,
I start have problems and accidents from January to May, this
making little time to compete at my best. I was afraid this
will happen again next year and don't want to pass trough
it again.
Q: Which girl from the team was your best friend? (a question
from our "50Cent" Forum member, Chicago, IL, USA)
Oana
Ban: I didn't have a special friend, we all
have good relations and we support each other. Of course (laughing),
we have sometime little "fights"or "quarrel's", you know-like
girls always do...
Q like we say in Romania, "you love and fight like sisters?"
Oana
Ban: almost, but we always get things in place,
we never stay upset too much, after we disagree on something.
Q: I know you like drawing, what kind of drawings you make?
Oana: I like most to draw famous figures from cartoons, this
is what I'm doing best. I made also some drawings with my
teammates, but have to work more on my portraits abilities.(smile)
Q you also like tailoring? (her father is a professional,
respected tailor)
Oana
Ban: Yes, I made some small things like adjustments
on my own clothes, cutting my jeans and mowing some stars
on them (last year fashion sensation among Romanian teenagers
were jeans with big stars mounted on them).I do myself a hem
when I need it.
Q We heard that you like to cook breakfast for your family?
Oana
Ban: when I was in holydays back home, I always
like to make the ham and egg for the whole family.
(her sister told us that Oana made difrent salads for her
family, like she use to eat as gymnasts-but they are not very
happy about salads, and also Oana made for them ice cream,
ton salads and a sepcial salad with eggs and cabbage.)
Q:... kind of American style breakfast, ham and eggs (but
common in Transylvania, too). You like dolls, saw in a photo
you have a lot of little bears, velvet monkeys around...
Oana
Ban: I like to collect them, have plenty.
Q: How many, more like 100 or 200 ? One of our team girls
from gymnastics.com have had her own collection and asked
me to check...
Oana
Ban: More like 200's , will count and let you
know (laughing). But most of them I have from friends around
the world.
Q: Glad that you mention your world wide fans. Many of them,
I mean it, MANY!, asked us-like our Forum member "romaniaroks"
fromCalgary, Alberta- how to contact you, to write you?
Oana
Ban: now they can write directly to me, my
sister (which is a student at Polytechnic Institute, 4th year)
will help me with this. Just tell them to not send me any
more U.S. stamps or any foreign stamps, (laugh) there are
no use here (to send them answers).
Q: They can use something called "International Postal coupons"-which
you can give to your post office and they give you in return
the postage for an airmail letter.
Oana
Ban: have tried once and my nearest post office
didn't accept even these ones.
Q: just because they are stupid and didn't bother to check
with their bosses (this coupons involves more work for them
instead of cash which they prefer). We shall check about this
problem, to help your fans by giving them the right and easiest
solution. [we did and the problems came when those coupons
are not stamped by the issuing office, where you buy from;
they need to be stamped by the post office where you pay for
them]
Anyway, if you receive 1000 letters I think nobody really
believe you have the time to answer all of them, neither to
spend $3-4 for postage on each one.Only to the most interesting
letters, it would be a nice gesture.
Oana
Ban: I promise to try sending answers to many
as possible, even if this mean only few words.I have right
now some letters to read and maybe to asner at few of them
(arrived to me from the club or which has arrived in Deva)
My classes will start soon.
Q: you like playing with puzzles, too?
Oana
Ban: Yes, I have many, from the places I have
visited.I like those with landscapes and from Athens I have
a beautiful one, with the Pantheon on it.
Q: How long it takes to make one?
Oana
Ban: I don't spend much time every day, just
a little bit and this means it takes me up to...two weeks,
to finish a 2500 pieces puzzle. Is very fun and help you relax,
too.
Note: during next days, we will post on site the new Oana
address where you can send her fan letters, and also we will
check for you about those postal coupons you may use to get
an answer.
[we did, you need to ask your postal office to stamp them]
Be aware that her sister will screen almost all letters before
Oana read them, to help her, so I hope those "lovesick puppy
comments"-as somebody said on one forum, will stay far away-or
have their letters sent directly in the bin.
