Athens:
The "Celebrity's Olimpics"
Olympics date for Prince and girlfriend
PRINCE William of UK is heading off to Greece with girlfriend
Kate Middleton for more fun and games...and the Olympics.
The Prince and Kate jet off days ago this week to a private
Greek island from Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean, where they
have spent the last two weeks scuba-diving with friends.
William, 22, is expected to leave Kate behind to attend the
opening ceremony of the Games with Prince Harry on Friday
evening. The love-struck prince agreed to make the trip to
Athens after a personal appeal by his grandfather Prince Philip,
who was born in Corfu. Philip feels it is vital his grandson
is seen to represent Britain on a world stage after failing
to attend June's D-Day celebrations.
It will be William's first foreign engagement. A source close
to the Athens Olympic Committee said: "We have been told William
and Harry will attend the Games. Of course security is our
major concern so no details are being released. It will be
a great honour for Greece to have the future King of England
visit us."
Prince Charles is due to visit the Games the following
week and stay on the Queen Mary 2 in the port of Piraeus.
Fergie will also travel to Greece with princesses Beatrice,
15, and Eugenie, 13, to watch "close friend" Robert Splaine
compete in the show-jumping. William chose to take
Kate on holiday instead of going to Kenya to see "close friend"
and society beauty Jecca Craig, 21.
William and Kate are both at St Andrews University and during
term-time share a cottage. Recently Kate is reported to have
introduced herself as "William's girlfriend".
POP DIVA Madonna is among the host of celebrities,
politicians and royals heading to Greece for the Olympic Games.
Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have booked rooms at
the prestigious King George Hotel in the heart of Athens and
are expected to watch Bjork perform at the opening ceremony
on Friday.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates is due to stay aboard one
of the dozen luxury cruise liners moored in the heavily-defended
city port of Piraeus.
Ex US president George Bush will also rub shoulders
with the cream of European royalty including King Juan
Carlos of Spain and former King Constantine of Greece.
Athina Roussel, the 19-year-old heiress to the £2billionn
Onassis fortune, is also expected to visit Athens to watch
her Brazilian boyfriend Alvaro Alfonso de Miranda Neto compete
in the showjumping event.
